Community Investment Fund grants

GM Walking has given grants to nearly 90 local voluntary and community groups with the aim of getting Greater Manchester walking. They offered the grants to support a huge range of activities that encourage people who are usually less active to start or to increase the amount they regularly walk. Almost half of the successful applications were from organisations based in the most deprived 20% of the region.

They gave a total of £19,493 to five organisations across Trafford, including to:

  • Age UK Trafford to encourage local residents who are over 50 to attend guided walks to reduce loneliness and social isolation
  • Altrincham Community Response Hub to set up a buddy scheme to increase walking confidence among older people with physical difficulties
  • The Conservation Volunteers to support Trafford residents with learning difficulties to walk more
  • Collaborative Women UK CIC to run a community walking project for women who have experienced domestic abuse
  • Friends of Victoria Park Stretford to form a litter picking walking group, and to set up a weekly walking group for adults with a long-term illness or disability
