GM Moving Networks

Reducing levels of inactivity isn’t something we can do alone. It’ll take a wide range of people and organisations, from across Greater Manchester, working together. One of the ways we encourage this collaboration and collective problem solving is through bringing together themed networks.

  • Global Community of Practice

    What’s the purpose of this network?

    Bringing together global policy makers, practitioners and academics/evaluators around enabling Active Lives for All.

    Who should attend?

    Policy makers, practitioners, evaluators, academics, consultants. We try to keep a balance of people across different countries!

    Every other month, online.

  • GM Inclusive Active Design Group

    What’s the purpose of this network?

    Bringing inclusive perspective to public realm/built environment design.

    Who should attend?

    Transport planners, disability advocates, PH/highways.

  • GM Menopause Network

    What’s the purpose of this network?

    Creating opportunities for people to connect, collaborate and support, share learning, resources and positive stories of impact and change.

    Who should attend?

    Open to anyone working to make a difference to the experiences of women’s health and wellbeing during this life change, from across sectors including public, health and VCFSE.

    What’s the purpose of this network?

    An opportunity for marketing and comms colleagues to come together to connect, share learnings and join up our comms efforts.

    What’s the purpose of this network?

    Share learning from opening school facilities to encourage more schools to open for community use:

  • Inclusion of Disabled People and People with Long-term Conditions

    What’s the purpose of this network?

    GM Moving and partners are committed to reducing the inequalities faced by disabled people in becoming more active and have come together to create the GM Commitment to Inclusion Group.

    This group aims to get activity providers from across Greater Manchester on the same page when it comes to providing inclusive provision to disabled people. Within this group we aim to:

    • Provide a space for disabled people, disabled people’s organisations, and activity providers to come together to share successes, learning, and challenges and work through them together
    • Show examples of inclusive practice through partner visits within the region
    • Support of Activity Alliance’s LEAD approach in Greater Manchester, to support leisure providers through self-assessment and action plan towards providing inclusion provision for disabled people.

    Leisure/activity providers specialising in inclusive/disability activity or wanting to become inclusive.

  • Leisure Operator and National Governing Body Safeguarding Forum

    What’s the purpose of this network?

    The Leisure Operator and National Governing Body Safeguarding Forum meetings take place quarterly. It brings together Safeguarding Leads from leisure operators across Greater Manchester and National Governing Bodies (NGBs) to build stronger partnerships, align processes, and take collective action to ensure safer environments for everyone involved in sport and physical activity.

    The forum has created space to share practice, discuss challenges and strengthen working relationships. Conversations have covered topics such as inclusion, communication, and how safeguarding links to wider equality work.

    Safeguarding Leads from leisure operators across Greater Manchester and National Governing Bodies (NGBs).

    Quarterly, in-person meetings in central Manchester.

  • Sport and Club Leads Network

    What’s the purpose of this network?

    The GM Moving Sport and Club Leads meeting takes place quarterly, aiming to bring partners together to discuss different approaches to club development, creating a supportive space where ideas, experiences and learning can be shared.

    Meetings take a themed approach to allow for more focused discussion and practical learning, with recent sessions covering topics such as funding.

    It also provides an opportunity to pool ideas, resources and capacity, enabling a more coordinated and strategic approach to club development across Greater Manchester.

    In addition, the forum supports the development of a training and support offer for clubs. This may include topics such as Welfare and Safeguarding, Buddle-related areas, and any other needs identified by clubs.

    Locality and system partner colleagues with sport/club development remit.

    Quarterly, in-person meetings in central Manchester.

  • Sport Connect Forum

    What’s the purpose of this network?

    The GM Moving Sport Connect Forum is a collaborative space that connects Greater Manchester’s sport partners to align, learn, and act together to increase activity and reduce inequalities.

    Previous topics have included Children & Young People, Women & Girls, Health, Welfare & Safeguarding, Place-based working and Club Development. This provides partners with an opportunity to connect to different GM Moving priorities, and to each other.

    The key aims of the Forum are to:

    • Build relationships, identify opportunities for joint working, across and within sectors

    • Provide a regular space for sharing key updates, local insights and opportunities

    • Strengthen the collective voice of NGBs and Sport partners within the GM System, aligning around shared priorities & maximising collective impact

    • Share and amplify learnings and successes from approaches, models or programmes

    • Demonstrate shared commitment to tackling inactivity and reducing inequalities in participation in sport

    Who should attend?

    NGBs & Sport England System Partners, Localities, professional club foundations and any other partners with an interest and remit around Sport in Greater Manchester.

    Quarterly, in-person in central Manchester.

  • Tackling Inequalities Network

    What’s the purpose of this network?

    • Increase visibility of the work of organisations to tackle inequalities through physical activity, sport and movement, understanding challenges and amplifying positive achievements.
    • Provide opportunities for community groups and organisations to come together to share learning and ideas, pool resources and access peer support.
    • Build capacity and develop key skills which will support groups to access future funding opportunities.
    • Connect groups and organisations with wider support offers which can help enable more sustainable sport and physical activity opportunities.

    Who should attend?

    Anyone working to reduce inequalities to access and enjoyment of sport, physical activity and movement opportunities – from a community group leader to a NGB Equalities Lead.

    Once every 3 months, in-person, in central Manchester.

  • Volunteering Community of Practice

    What’s the purpose of this network?

    The Volunteering Community of Practice is a space where people from different sectors, organisations and groups collaborate and share learning, around a common goal of making volunteering in sport, physical activity and more inclusive and accessible. People share what’s been successful for them and work through challenges with other members. We also make sure members have the most recent data on trends in volunteering, sharing what research is saying about whether our approach is making the impact on volunteering that we’re hoping to see.

    Who should attend?

    People working to improve volunteering in sport and physical activity. Current members of the Community of Practice include: National and local governing bodies of sports; Local VCSE Infrastructure Organisations; Local Authorities; VCSE organisations and groups, including sports clubs, and more.

    How often do we meet?

    Once every 3 months, in-person, in central Manchester.
