Building on the success of the initial work Place Partnerships work in Stockport want to continue to;
- Grow the place partnership reach
- Build on the learnings from existing work
- Ensure increasing physical activity remains strategic priority.
- Encourage sustainable behaviours and process to support physical activity at both and organisational and neighbourhood level
Active Communities
Stockport recognise that physical activity does not exist in isolation. Therefore, collaboration across sectors around physical activity and inequalities is crucial. This means strategies such as Active Communities is vital to Stockport’s approach.
Through Active Communities Stockport want to build on learnings from previous interventions. This could include exploring how to apply learnings to new demographics. Such as exploring how outcomes from the CYP inclusivity work could be applied to other age groups.
To help expand the influence of place work Stockport are exploring a mentoring model. This model can help embed place principles into other sectors and organisations. Showing how the place approach can be used to support residents access activity. This model would have community voice at its heart and focus on supporting behaviour change.
Action Research Methodology
Stockport want to expand the reach of action research methodology. This includes applying the test and learn approach to work in neighbourhoods beyond Brinnington. By engaging new neighbourhoods with different demographics to Brinnington, Stockport are hoping to create a flexible framework for place work that can they be used across the borough.
Another aim is to embed the methodological principles and wider inactivity determinants into strategies (such as the ONE Stockport Active Communities Strategy). It is hoped that through this alongside community work they will see a shift to more sustainable appraised to physical activity at both organisational and neighbourhood level.
