Staff from 7 Primary Care Networks (PCNs) in Wigan completed two parkrun takeovers in July with participants at Pennington Flash recieving a special visit from now Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
Inspired by events in Trafford, see video below, 60 members of staff came together to take part in the takeovers and support their local communities to feel happier and healthier.
On Saturday 4 July, 216 participants completed Pennington Flash parkrun with 325 joining the teams at Haigh Woodland a week later on 11 July.
Across the two weekends, 50 health checks were completed by Health First while GP Alliance provided a mobile unit and joined the parkrun events.
The takeovers were also supported by Be Well Wigan.
Events like this demonstrate the incredible power of parkrun to bring communities together, enjoy two wonderful locations in the borough, and get a bit of movement or volunteering into a Saturday morning.
GM Moving continues to support health and care professionals to build moving more into daily life for themselves and their patients, with GP Practices and PCNs encouraged to become parkrun practices.
parkrun practices can also sign-up as Active Practices, accreditation from the Royal College of GPs and Sport England recognising those settings which support staff and patients to more more every day.
