At GM Moving, we believe that safeguarding and welfare should sit at the centre of everything we do, because positive experiences of physical activity can only happen when people feel protected, respected and supported.
The importance of safeguarding
The importance of robust safeguarding practice has been reinforced through the CPSU review process and the Ann Craft Framework. Both have challenged organisations across the sector to move towards a culture where safeguarding is embedded into leadership, decision-making and everyday practice. Compliance with these frameworks is not simply about meeting expectations; it is about recognising our responsibility to participants, staff, volunteers and communities.
Who is responsible for safeguarding?
The Ann Craft Framework and the CPSU review both reinforce that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Together, they highlight the importance of strong governance, clear accountability, openness to learning and a proactive approach to safeguarding. They also emphasise the value of listening, transparency and continuous improvement, helping organisations strengthen both safeguarding practice and confidence, while ensuring the welfare of everyone involved in physical activity remains central.
Across the system, partners consider this work to be part of changing a culture for the better

Safeguarding means creating inclusive spaces where people can build confidence, improve wellbeing and enjoy the benefits of being active. When people feel safe, they are more likely to participate, stay engaged and experience the positive impact that movement can have on physical and mental health.
