Over 80 women came together in the centre of Stockport on International Women’s Day for a surprise flashmob to celebrate women and launch Life Leisure’s new campaign, ‘Power to Glow’.

Life Leisure brought energy, movement and celebration to Stockport this International Women’s Day with a surprise flashmob designed to launch its new Power to Glow campaign, an initiative focused on empowering women and girls to feel confident, strong and proud to be active.

The spontaneous performance saw over 80 customers, staff, and instructors come together in a coordinated dance right in the heart of Merseyway shopping centre, creating a joyful and unexpected moment for members of the public.

The flashmob was in honour of International Women’s Day and also marked the official launch of their Power to Glow campaign, a month-long celebration to encourage more women and girls to feel comfortable participating in physical activity in a way that works for them. Everyone deserves to have welcoming spaces where they can build confidence, connect with others and enjoy movement without judgement.

The event followed several months of planning and preparation, with participants committing time and energy to learn the routine while keeping the entire performance a surprise. Life Leisure has thanked everyone involved for their enthusiasm and dedication.

Special recognition has also been given to the dance instructors, Laura Latham and Sue Mellor, who choreographed and led the sessions, helping bring the performance to life and ensuring participants felt confident and ready for the big reveal.

Life Leisure would also like to thank its customers and colleagues who took part and kept the flashmob under wraps, helping to create a memorable and impactful moment for the community.

The performance captured the attention of shoppers who stopped to watch, cheer and film the moment as the music began.

Videos from the event have already gained over 50,000 views across social media, with strong engagement from the local community.

Laura Latham, Group Exercise Instructor at Life Leisure, said: “International Women’s Day is about celebrating the strength and achievements of women, but it’s also about continuing to create opportunities for women to feel confident and supported in being active. The flashmob was a fun and powerful way to show what happens when people come together through movement.”

“It was amazing to be part of something that celebrates women and encourages confidence. Seeing the reactions from people in the crowd made all the practice sessions worth it.”

As the campaign continues, Life Leisure will be highlighting further activities and stories designed to inspire women across the community to move more, connect with others and discover their own Power to Glow.
