Bolton Adult Activity Levels May 2020-21

The latest Active Lives results published by Sport England show that 63.8% of adults in Bolton are active for at least 30 minutes a week, equating to 144,200 adults moving; a decrease of 9,200 from the survey 12 months ago.

63.8% of adults in Bolton are now moving (active and fairly active), this equates to 144,200 adults. Since Active Lives launched, November 2015-16, inactivity in Bolton has increased by 7.1%, meanwhile in Greater Manchester the rate has increased by 2.0%, in the last 12 months it has risen by 4.2% in Bolton.

Demographic data

The inactivity gender gap in Bolton is 0.1%

Since November 15/16 the gender gap has decreased by 5.3%. This change is due to a large increase in inactivity amongst men (+10.0%) and an increase in inactivity amongst women (+4.7%).

The inactivity socio-economic gap in Bolton is 32.0%

Since November 15/16 the socio-economic gap has increased by 13.6%. This change is due to a large increase in inactivity amongst lower social groups (+13.6%), NS-SEC 6-8, and a minor decrease in inactivity amongst higher social groups (-0.1%) NS-SEC 1-2.

The inactivity disability gap in Bolton is 23.8%

Since November 15/16 the disability gap has increased by 5.2%.  Inactivity has risen amongst both those with a long term limiting disability and those without. However the rate of increase has been greater amongst those with a long term limiting disability (+10.8%) than in those without a long term limiting disability (+5.6%).

The inactivity age gap in Bolton is 25.4%

Since November 15/16 the age gap has decreased by 9.8%. This is a result of a greater increase in inactivity amongst 16 to 34 year olds (+19.0%) compared to over 75's (+9.2%).

Ethnicity

Due to limited sample sizes we have limited ethnicity data across the Greater Manchester boroughs. In Bolton 30.6% of those from a White British background are inactive and 61.5% of those from a South Asian background are inactive.
