The latest Active Lives results published by Sport England show that 69.5% of adults in the region are active for at least 30 minutes a week, equating to 1,573,400 adults moving; a decrease of 48,300 from the survey 12 months ago.
GreaterSport have worked with Sporting Equals to understand BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) Groups’ activity levels, attitudes, motivations and barriers to sport and physical activity across Greater Manchester. Both organisations felt it was important to share some of the key findings.
As we age, inactivity (less than 30mins a week) increases, with older adults being more than twice as likely to be inactive, 75+ years 54% and 55+ years 36.8% compared to 16-34 year olds 18.7% in GM.
Six in ten children and young people in Greater Manchester are not active enough. 35.8% of children and young people, on average, do less than 30 minutes of activity each day, with only 39.9% doing at least 60 minutes or more.
