Twelve months ago, GM Moving, alongside Active Partnerships from across the country, committed to taking positive action for those experiencing menopause.

Read about our shared commitment here.

We are also proud to be a Menopause Committed Employer, and over the last few months have been working towards full Menopause Friendly Accreditation.

Strategic Lead for Active Adults, Claire Marshall, explains a bit more about what progress we’ve made over the past year:

It’s great to use World Menopause Day 2025 to look back and reflect on the many successes that we’ve had bringing positive change for those experiencing menopause.

At GM Moving, we’ve held a Menopause Awareness Session during one of our weekly team meetings and are investing in training for workplace menopause champions.

We’ve completed a review and update of our workplace menopause policy and included the menopause within our Equality, Equity, Diversity and Inclusin plan

Externally, we continue to support the co-ordination of the Active Partnership Menopause Community of Practice, providing opportunities for colleagues to connect and share learning.

In GM, we're supporting a research project, delivered in partnership with Salford University and the GMCA, to identify barriers and facilitators to women's workplace wellbeing.

And we continue to coordinate a GM Menopause Network which is open to all system partners who want to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of women.

We have had two face-to-face network sessions in 2025 so far, which provide time and space for members to connect, share knowledge, and work in a more collaborative way.

The network has also established a WhatsApp group as a way for members to quickly share relevant information such as events, training, and resources, or request support.

Here’s what Leonie Painter, Community Development Fieldwork for Winning Hearts and Minds said about the network:

Lots of our connections have been made through the GM Menopause Network, which have allowed the ladies to explore so much more about themselves.

“It shows by sharing knowledge we can create bigger and better health outcomes for all. Thank you for allowing me to come in and learn so much, and take it back out into the community.”

GM Moving will host the next Menopause Network event on Friday 24 October. Dr Ashley Gluchowski is due to attend to talk about the importance of strength training and how we can embed it into our everyday lives. See her video below.

There are nearly 100 members on the network’s mailing list and if you’d like to get involved then drop me an email
