We have just finalised recruitment of the next group of Young Local Organising Committee (YLOC) members. The group is made up of young people from across Greater Manchester (GM) and provides a platform for youth voice on anything linked to the School Games programme in GM. The process was incredibly competitive with over 30 applications received for just 12 positions. Following an intensive interview process, we have 12 young people that will represent their school, borough and voice of young people from eight schools across GM including; Wright Robinson, Dean Trust Ardwick, The Kingsway School, Stockport Academy, Blessed Thomas Holford, Flixton Girls School, Manchester Health Academy and North Chadderton.

The YLOC will come together to share the views of young people and will consult with their peers around what the School Games means and how it can be improved to better engage young people from all backgrounds. Collectively they will not only shape what the competition formats look like, but also the opening ceremony to create a spectacle that sets attendees up for a day of competition and celebration of sport. Whilst much of what the group do will impact the county level events, their input is shared and filtered down to inter and intra-county competitions.

Previous YLOC members have continued to be engaged and supported with the interviewing process for this years YLOC applicants.

India, 2018/19 YLOC member:

'The School Games is important for young people as it allows them to enjoy themselves regardless of winning or losing and make new friends.'

Mark, 2018/19 YLOC member:

'I believe we bring our youth and a different perspective which has hopefully helped to improve this event. It was incredible event to be a part of and nothing compares to seeing the enjoyment of each child participating in the event and knowing that I helped organise it.'
