Moving Forces is a Greater Manchester based project aimed at helping armed forces personnel to stay active during and after their transition to civilian life. It's been running in Tameside since October 2018 and due to its success is now being launched in Manchester and Rochdale. The scheme currently has 130 members and since October it's engaged with over 300 veterans and family members.

The project develops a programme of physical activity and sport sessions in the local area, which are delivered by partner organisations and community clubs. It aims to decrease social isolation among veterans and increase the amount of ex-service personnel engaging in physical activity, particularly during the transition into civilian life.

The following sessions are available in Manchester and Rochdale and we will be looking to add more activities soon.

-Wheelchair rugby at Rochdale leisure Centre.

-Fishing at Rochdale Walton Angling Society.

-Sailing at Hollingworth Lake.

-Football – Manchester City Military Veterans team – train at the City Football Academy

-Wheelchair Basketball at Belle Vue Sports Village

-Indoor Climbing at Manchester Climbing Centre

If you are a veteran or an organisation working with veterans and would like to find out more about the programme and how you can get involved please email Pete Carruthers ([email protected]).
