parkruns all over the world are joining in a celebration of female participation by hosting a special event on Saturday 7 March 2020, ahead of International Women’s Day the following day.

We would love you to join in the celebrations by bringing along a female friend, colleague or family member and walking, jogging, running or volunteering at your local parkrun. You could even just come along to watch or cheer.

parkrun events will be showing their support by encouraging as many women and girls as possible to participate as walkers, joggers, runners and volunteers with a suggested purple dress code for the day.

Today, in partnership with This Girl Can, we are launching a special campaign aimed at addressing and breaking down many of the barriers faced by women and girls and inspiring them to come along to parkrun.

The fear of not being fit enough, of being ‘too slow’, of not having volunteered before, of coming on your own or uncertainty about what to expect are just some of the barriers that people face, especially women and girls.

In England we are working with our partners Sport England, supporting the This Girl Can campaign to help address the gender gap seen more widely in sports.

The campaign will show that parkrun is for everyone, no matter your age, background, fitness level or gender. And although #IWDparkrun is being held on one day, it is hoped that the impact will be far more long-lasting!
