Demographic data

The inactivity gender gap in Manchester is 0.2%

Since November 15/16 the gender gap has decreased by 0.7%. This change is due to a larger increase in inactivity amongst men (+2.8%) than amongst women (+2.1%).

The inactivity socio-economic gap in Manchester is 18.2%

Since November 15/16 the socio-economic gap has decreased by 4.2%. This change is due to a smaller increase in inactivity amongst lower social groups (+0.3%), NS-SEC 6-8, than amongst higher social groups (+4.5%) NS-SEC 1-2.

The inactivity disability gap in Manchester is 13.6%

Since November 15/16 the disability gap has decreased by 10.0%.  This is due to a decline in inactivity amongst those with a long term limiting disability (-4.9%) and an increase in inactivity amongst those without a long term limiting disability (+5.1%)

The inactivity age gap in Manchester is 41.6%

Since November 15/16 the age gap has decreased by 10.6%. This is a result of inactivity amongst over 75's declining (-6.2%) and inactivity increasing amongst 16 to 34 year olds (+4.4%).

Ethnicity

Due to limited sample sizes we have limited ethnicity data across the Greater Manchester boroughs. In Manchester 24.0% of those from a White British background are inactive, compared to 22.0% of those from a White Other background, 43.5% of South Asians and 36.8% of those identifying as Black.
