Job role: My role is to work across the Greater Manchester City region to strengthen and champion the benefits of physical activity within a young person’s daily life. It’s my responsibility to connect moving more to wider Children and Young People agendas, drive collaboration and learning and be committed to working with system partners in shared ambitions:

  • To enable all young children aged 0-4 have the best active start in life.
  • To support young people (aged 5-25) develop their life chances through a more active lifestyle.
  • To make physical activity and sport more accessible for children and young people, with a focus on reducing inequalities.

Date joined: July 2018

Professional background: My degree in Public Health & Nutrition (BSc) from Sheffield Hallam University, was followed by some short term roles in sexual health and smoking cessation before embarking into the world of Weight Management and Obesity Services. Initially delivering “men’s only fitness” classes in Wigan, Specialist Tier 3 Services across Greater Manchester and specialising in paediatric and family weight management in St. Helen’s. The roles allowed me to expand my knowledge of behaviour change, particularly asset based conversations and understanding the complex lives faced by families. In 2017, I moved to manage the family weight management service contract on behalf of Manchester City Council.

Fun fact: Away from work, I run two GirlGuiding Units in Wigan (age 4-7 & 10+) suporting girls who inspire me to be creative and have fun. I enjoy spending time with my Scottish Terrier, Walter and discovering the latest cuisine Manchester city centre has to offer.
